Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is a Statutory Organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap. 51: 02; revised 2012) with a mandate to promote standardization of commodities and their manufacture, production processing or treatment and to provide for the verification and calibration of weighing and measuring instruments; and further to provide for matters incidental to or connected with standardization.
To beef up its operations, the Malawi Bureau of Standards s
eeks to recruit the services of suitably qualified individuals to fill the following vacant positions tenable at its Head Office in Blantyre.
Standards Information Officer (Grade BS6 )
Responsible to : Director of Standards Development
Responsible for : Assistant Librarian
Job Purpose
To manage Standards’ Information Centre.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
·        Supervising collation, storage and retrieval of information resources,
·        Preparing annual budgets;
·        Supervising Standards Information Centre staff;
·        Ensuring that Library materials are kept up to date;
·        Manning the National Enquiry Point;
·        Developing annual operational action plans in consultation with the Director of Standards Development;
·        Creating and producing promotional materials and programmes in consultation with the Head of Departments;
·        Preparing and circulating relevant information through newspapers;
·        Liaising with media houses to cover MBS functions;
·        Distributing press releases to targeted media;
·        Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours;
·        Consolidating technical progress reports required by management; and
·        Appraising performance of Assistant librarian.
Personal Attributes
·        Strong interpersonal skills,
·        Ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff;
·        Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and maim decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
Qualifications and Experience Required
·        Degree in Library and Information Science, Media for Development Media Studies, and/or Journalism;
·        Not less than three (3) years work experience;
·        Good communication skills (oral and written)
·        Excellent computer knowledge.
·        Knowledge of conformity assessment procedures will be an added advantage.
